Fundraising Professional Opportunity - Major Gifts

Deadline for applications: December 12, 2020

Role Title

Fundraising Professional - Major Gifts - for United World Colleges National Committee of Great Britain

Role Description

UWC National Committee of Great Britain (UWCGB) is one of 155 different National Committees around the world that select students for admission to a United World College. You can learn more about United World Colleges here. UWCGB is at a crucial time in its development, and we have exciting plans to further extend the number of British students that are selected and offered places at UWCs, irrespective of their personal financial means.

To do so, we are working to professionalise our fundraising efforts and, to this end, we are seeking a highly-skilled fundraising professional who has significant experience of fundraising, including a proven track record of writing successful proposals, negotiating, winning and delivering partnerships with, and funds from, charitable trusts and foundations, companies, individuals, and major donors. Experience of delivering successful fundraising campaigns is essential.

UWCGB is looking for a highly-skilled and motivated fundraising professional to create and lead on the fundraising strategy for the organisation, raising funds to provide financial support for selected students to attend the United World Colleges around the world.

UWCGB is predominantly a volunteer-based organisation. In addition to selecting British students for UWC based on suitability, merit and potential, it also publicises UWC, raises scholarship funds, supports the students before, during and after their time at a college and organises network events for UWC alumni. You can read more about the UWCGB mission here.

The Fundraising Professional for UWCGB is a newly-created and pivotal position, and the successful applicant will work closely with the Trustees of UWC Great Britain and its Fundraising Working Group. The role is part of a small, dedicated, friendly team though it will have a significant degree of autonomy to bring to bear fundraising experience.

The role will require some travel within the UK. We welcome applications from people seeking to work from home as UWC Great Britain does not have a formal office presence.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to play a significant role in shaping the organisation’s fundraising strategy whilst generating immediate impact. If you have a passion for supporting education, are experienced in setting up a prospect pipeline, managing partnerships and securing funding, we would love to hear from you.

Skills Required

Critical to have a demonstrable track record of fundraising experience working in a similar capacity for a substantial not for profit or charitable organisation.

  • Experience of working with multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Experience of successfully approaching high net worth individuals and high profile organisations
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English
  • Able to work well independently and also as part of a team, must be self motivated
  • Experience of dealing with sensitive information

Remuneration

As this is a newly created position, we will be offering a commission only based arrangement in the first instance, however we would anticipate this role becoming salaried as soon as a pre-agreed level of recurring income is achieved. We are happy to discuss and agree exact (realistic) goals with candidates.
